We invite you to a guest lecture on the topic “The Role of Protein Homeostasis in Lifelong Cell Maintenance”.

Martin Hetzer investigates how cells maintain protein homeostasis (proteostasis) to preserve function over long periods. His work focuses on mechanisms that enable lifelong neuronal cell maintenance, particularly how long-lived cells protect nuclear integrity and manage accumulated molecular damage during aging.

Martin Hetzer has headed the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) in Klosterneuburg since 2023. Previously, he was Vice President of the Salk Institute of Biological Studies in California. Hetzer is a great advocate of curiosity-driven and interdisciplinary science, as well as science education. The molecular biologist's own scientific work at ISTA focuses on ageing.
